This global assessment highlights the role of food systems as the leading driver of biodiversity loss worldwide. The findings show that agriculture is the primary threat to the majority of species at risk of extinction. Food production systems drive habitat loss, land conversion, and ecosystem degradation, which directly reduce biodiversity. The expansion of agricultural land, especially for livestock and feed production, is a major contributor to this trend. 

The report also highlights the interconnected nature of biodiversity loss.
