This global study from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) uses remote sensing technology to analyze patterns of deforestation and land-use change over time. The study finds that agricultural expansion is responsible for nearly 90% of global deforestation. Large-scale commercial agriculture, including livestock production and feed crop cultivation, accounts for a significant portion of this forest loss.
